The group behind the Bareburger chain recently opened Salt & Bone Smokehouse, a no frills, Texas style BBQ restaurant in Astoria. The food scene has been buzzing about this restaurant, so I thought I would give it a try.
My first impression is that the rustic and laid back atmosphere at Salt & Bone, coupled with craft brews and a hearty food menu, makes it a great destination for a night out with your guy.
As far as the food is concerned, heere’s what I tried:
Tiki Swine Tacp (pulled pork, aged cheddar, red onion, corn, lettuce, habenero, mango-pineapple crema)Spicy Mac & CheeseBrisket & Side of Baked Beans
Overall, while it’s not the best BBQ I’ve had in NYC, the brisket was definitely a standout and worth the trip to Astoria.
The sides were “just ok” but admittedly, a step above the typical BBQ sides, with the spicy Mac and cheese having a very nice smokey flavor.
In my opinion, Salt & Bone is a much needed addition to the Astoria neighborhood and is a decent spot to satisfy your BBQ craving and/or to just hang out with friends.
