Spuntino Wine Bar & Italian Tapas in Westbury is my go-to restaurant in Long Island for a glass of wine paired with reasonably priced Italian tapas. It is also where I go for my after shopping “pit stop” when I’m in the Garden City/Westbury area doing some retail therapy. The cozy, rustic and chic atmosphere of Spuntino makes you forget that the location is actually within a strip mall.
The crowd at Spuntino is typically filled with couples and groups in their 30’s and 40’s. During the week and after work, the crowd gears more towards local young professionals. Because of the trendy space, I definitely recommend Spuntino for group meals and catching up. Spuntino’s award winning wine list is extensive and the restaurant holds over 1,800 bottles of wine in temperature controlled floor to ceiling wine cabinets.
On my first visit to Spuntino, I honestly didn’t know that I was entering an Italian tapas restaurant, which I believe is an interesting and crowd pleasing niche. Everyone loves Italian food, so there is something for everyone on the menu. However, if all else fails, I recommend ordering one of the six delicious pizza options!
My favorite pizza on the menu is the Piccante, which is a Margherita pizza, loaded with pepperoni, red pepper flakes and drizzled with sweet honey. The combination of sweet and savory is harmonious and delicious. I also love the Seared Tuna Bruschetta, which lightly seared tuna, topped with arugula, chili peppers, olives and lemon zest. The olives and the tuna is a combination that I wouldn’t put together but trust me, the combination works!
Overall, the food at Spuntino is delicious and flavorful. The portions are ample so I’d recommend ordering around 3-4 tapas, which should be plenty, especially if you order a pizza. If you’re ever in the Long Island area, this is a fantastic option.
