Scarpetta & Spaghetti (Meatpacking)

IMG_0192

Scarpetta and specifically trying their highly acclaimed Spaghetti has been on my bucket list for at least the last three years.

FINALLY…. on my 30th birthday, I made a long overdue visit to Scarpetta. Upon making the reservation and even upon entering the sophisticated restaurant, I had one thing and one thing only on my mind and that was…. spaghetti.

However, upon sitting down and reviewing the menu, while divulging that delicious and savory breadbasket, I became distracted. I started asking myself, am I really going to order the spaghetti? I mean, my father always warned me to, “never order something at a restaurant that you can make at home”.

Still, despite my hesitation, and against my father’s advice, I went ahead and asked the server, “is the spaghetti all what it’s cracked up to be?” Enthusiastically, he replied “Yes!!! You must order it”.

Fearing that I may have just wasted $24, I went ahead and ordered the spaghetti anyways. Trust me, I was not disappointed.

This is definitely not any spaghetti that I’ve ever made at home… this simple “Spaghetti, tomato and basil”  is executed to perfection. The house made sauce includes the aforementioned basil, along with a red-pepper-infused olive oil and Parmesan cheese., which all come together nicely!

We also ordered

The Creamy Polenta (fricassee of truffled mushrooms)

Tagliatelle (braised oxtail, rapini, concentrated tomato & gremolata)

The Verdict & Recommendations: this is sophisticated Italian food, where the simplest Italian dish, steals the show! You also must try that braised short ribs of beef, which is delectable and cooked to perfection. The ambiance is cozy and romantic and the service of course above-average . Overall, this is a must try in the meatpacking district and the making of the perfect date night!
