Popping Bottles: The Velvet Devil Merlot 2013

Overview: The Velvet Devil is produced and bottled by Charles Smith Wines, Mattawa, Washington. It retails on average under $15 and is 99% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.

From the Winemaker: “True to its name, velvety. Complex and just-so-right flavors, pipe tobacco, bing cherry, dried rose petals with a blend of subtle herbs and spice. Real wine. Real Merlot” More information about this and other Charles Smith Wines here.

My Tasting Notes: The Velvet Devil is indeed the “devil”, as I bought three bottles of this delicious Merlot this week. This velvety, very smooth wine makes this medium bodied wine a delicious option, that I  enjoy pairing with a juicy steak. The Velvet Devil has a subtle hint of spice that gives this wine that “extra bit of something nice”. So far, this is my favorite Merlot this year!
