Spearheaded by Executive Chef Scott Adriani, Oro is a Long Island City, Italian restaurant highlighting classic Italian flavors with a modern twist. Owner, Mike Celic, chose Long Island City for his restaurant because not only is the neighborhood “up and coming”, but the area noticeably lacks authentic Italian Cuisine……that is until Oro opened up in August 2016.
Upon entering the restaurant, you will immediately notice that the 7,500 square foot restaurant is not only beautiful but also spacious, which a novelty when dining in Manhattan.
[Mingling Platter for Two]
Slightly overwhelmed at all the appealing options, my dining partner and I played it safe and started our meal by ordering the Mingling Platter for two, which was a combination of assorted Salami, Artisanal Cheeses, Wildflower Honey, Mustard, Pepperoncini, Grapes, Crostini, Tapenade and a Sun Dried Tomato Spread. While the entire platter was delicious, the Blueberry Cheese and the Duck Salami really stood out.
[Meatball Parmigiana]
For our second starter, my dining partner and I decided to order something that we wouldn’t normally order; Meatball Parmigiana. The meatballs ended up being an excellent choice. They were tender, juicy and well seasoned smothered in evenly melted cheese and a delicious Tomato Basil Sauce. I would definitely order this again.
[Squid Ink Lingini]
For my entrée, I ordered the Squid Ink Lingini served with Mixed Seafood, which was smothered in a light yet flavorful tomato broth. The Lingini was made from scratch and cooked perfectly “al dente”. The ample portion of fresh mixed seafood made this dish a “must try” for seafood lovers.
[Tomahawk Rib Eye Steak]
[Pan Fried Fingerling Potatoes]
For his entrée, my dining partner ordered the 28 Oz Tomahawk Rib Eye Steak, which was served with a tasty Garlic Herb butter. He also ordered a side of Pan Fried Fingerling Potatoes to go with his steak. The Tomahawk Steak is essentially every man’s dream come true! (i.e., a huge steak, perfectly cooked, well seasoned with a proportionate amount of marbling). If you have a hearty appetite, the Tomahawk Rib Eye Steak is an excellent choice.
Tiramisu
Overall, I really enjoyed my dinner/date night at Oro. The food is exquisite and the ambiance is wonderful. I really enjoyed the fact that I was able to eat my meal without intruding into my neighbor’s personal space. If you’re ever in the area or you just need a reason to escape Manhattan, take the short ride over to Long Island City and experience some delicious Italian food at Oro. I promise, you won’t be disappointed.
