Why: Mooncake Foods is a hole in the wall, located in the Financial District that I discovered one day while on lunch break. Mooncake Foods also has three additional locations throughout the city, in Soho, Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen. Essentially, Mooncake Foods offers fun Casual Asian Comfort food. The FiDi location is small (only about 10 seats), so it is perfect for takeout during lunch. Their portions are not huge but are decent for the price and area. My favorite menu options are the Miso-Glazed Salmon Plate, which was absolutely delicious and the Grilled Chicken with garlic lime chili sauce. The grilled chicken is dark meat, which is probably why it is very flavorful. The lime-flavored rice was fantastic as well (And I don’t even like rice). I also heard the crawfish dumplings are delicious and I will try that next time. They also serve dinner and you can order only.
