Havana Central is a Cuban Restaurant that I first discovered in Times Square some time back. However, a few years ago, a new location was added to Roosevelt Field Mall, which is perfect for those of us who love Cuban food but also avoid Times Square like the plague. Spearhead by Cuban Food Master, Stanley Licairac, the food at Havana Central is innovative, fresh and flavorful. The empanadas are delicious and the Crispy Shredded Beef, a classic Cuban dish is probably my favorite menu item.
If you’re looking for a place to drink in Garden City or perhaps grab a bite to eat after a long day of shopping, then Havana Central may be a good option for you. If you’re lucky, you can enjoy your meal while some live Cuban music is playing in the foyer. Happy Hour runs from 4-7pm on Weekdays. On Tuesdays, you can enjoy tasty $1 Empanadas.
Empanada (Variety) – Beef Picadillo, the Cubano and the Broccoli and Cheese, served hot, with ample filling. The crust has a crispy, flaky texture.
Vaca Frita (Crispy Shredded Beef) – Marinated pulled beef sautéed until crispy with lime, ajicito peppers, garlic and onions. Served with cilantro-flavored rice and a fried egg. The beef is well-seasoned, flavorful and tender.
Shrimp in Garlic Sauce – Jumbo shrimp sautéed in garlic, olive oil and finished in a white wine sauce. The Shrimp were large and not overcooked. The sauce was flavorful with a light texture.
Huevos Con Churrasco (Steak & Eggs) – Two eggs any style with 6oz of the most tender and juicy Churrasco (skirt steak) you have sinked your teeth in. Served over white rice and fried onions.
