Well if you missed it, Beyonce had a major announcement via Good Morning America on Monday! She used the national platform to announce that she’s……………… VEGAN!!!!!! Yeah I know, very disappointing announcement. Nevertheless, despite the major backlash she’s receiving from the Beyhive, I thought for once, I’d follow a trend and embrace Beyonce’s new found Veganism. Even though I’m certainly not giving up meat anytime soon, I do believe any diet that advocates for including more plant-based foods is a great thing and deserve some praise. With that being said, check out these three NYC restaurants where you can find delicious vegetarian and vegan options! Although I’m confident that one Vegan/Vegetarian meal will not get you that Beyonce body (pictured above), at least you will be taking a step in the right direction.
Where: 154 East 79th Street (Upper East Side)
Why: Candle 79 offers delicious gourmet, comfort, organic, vegan food. Fill up on Spaghetti & Wheat Balls, Tomato-Zucchini Lasagna or Wild Mushroom Crepe. They also offer a limited brunch menu, which includes, Homestyle Pancakes or Tofu Scramble.
Where: 300 East 12th Street (East Village)
Why: Angelica Kitchen is one of the oldest vegetarian restaurants in NYC and offers a delicious menu of organic plant-based cuisine. They are also kosher certified. No refined sugars, preservatives, diary, eggs or animal products at this restaurant. Their Dragon Bowls, an ample bowl of rice, beans, tofu, sea vegetables & steamed vegetables served with your choice of dressing (some served with soup and bread) is a delicious option.
Where: 86 Allen Street (East Village)
Why: Innovative Vegan food is the best way to describe Dirt Candy. Entrees are designed around specific vegetables. For example, the “Carrot” is pulled, pickled and jerked with peanut mole sauce on carrot waffles. (sounds delicious).
