The goal of the The Buppie Foodie™, among other things, is to be well-versed in the various cultures and cuisines in NYC. Seriously, what’s the point of living in the melting pot of the world and not experience everything that this city has to offer? Therefore, when I was presented with the opportunity to dine at my first Kosher restaurant in NYC, I enthusiastically accepted.
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, in Kew Garden Hills, a part of Queens that I’ve never visited or even knew existed, I entered L’Bella and was welcomed by Boris, half of the dynamic sibling duo that owns the restaurant. My first impression of L’Bella was that it was a wonderful family orientated restaurant, perfect for special occasions.
Upon sitting at my table, I was immediately greeted by a friendly and welcoming young server, who started me off with L’Bella’s signature and complimentary Bruschetta; made with chopped tomatoes, mozzarella, garlic, basil and olive oil served over perfectly toasted bread. This simple starter was delicious, harmonious and was just what I needed to get my taste buds ready for the main course.
For my entrée, I ordered L’Bella’s signature Fettuccine Al Funghi (medium mushrooms, Portobello mushrooms, asparagus with fettuccine in a light mushroom sauce). The pasta was cooked perfectly and the variety of mushrooms were tender, earthy and meaty. The delicious mushroom sauce was very flavorful, yet light enough so that it didn’t overpower the dish. The portion was ample, so I did take half of my entrée home with me. However, only about three hours later, I devoured what was left; a tell-tale sign that the food was delectable.
Finally, with the little room I had left, I ordered L’Bella’s signature Tiramisu dessert with a cup of espresso. Typically, I’m not a dessert person but on this particular restaurant visit, I don’t regret my decision at all!!! This Tiramisu (pictured below) was probably some of the best that I’ve had in NYC to date. The Tiramisu was filled with rich flavors, not too sweet and had a subtle, delicious coffee flavor. In other words, it was simply AMAZING and a must try!
Overall, I had a great dining experience at L’Bella. This is an excellent restaurant, where both Kosher and non Kosher people can enjoy a good, hearty Italian meal. The fact that it’s a Kosher restaurant is only a bonus because the food at L’Bella is top-notch Italian.
I shall return.
